SOUTHLAND Foodbank Drive 2017 will be held on Thursday, December 7.
The team will collect donations left beside mailboxes throughout the Invercargill and Otatara areas between 6pm and 8pm.
Representatives from New Zealand Fire Service, Creation Signs, Westpac, Invercargill Police and MoreFM Southland will also be helping out.
Harcourts manager Wayne Ellis said the group was asking residents to donate nonperishable food items for families facing hard times.
Southland Food Bank chairman Peter Swain said the foodbank had experienced a 20% increase in the number of people using the service over the past year alone. However, the food drive, now in its third year, had been a huge success, he said.
Last year the food drive provided the foodbank with enough food for six months, he said.
“People in Southland are very generous.”
The foodbank also served Western Southland, he said.
