‘Stunning’ Queens Park up for award

INVERCARGILL residents have the chance to show how much they love Queens Park as voting for the Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s annual Beautiful Awards is now open.

The park is a finalist for the Kiwis’ Choice award, competing with four other special spots from throughout New Zealand.

Invercargill City Council parks and recreation manager Caroline Rain said it was time to show the rest of New Zealand how much people loved the beautiful park.

‘‘We so often hear how lucky Invercargill is to have such an incredibly stunning green space for our people to relax, recreate and unwind in.

‘‘To receive this recognition means so much for a team who put their heart and soul into maintaining, beautifying and showcasing this treasure and now it’s time to get out there and vote,’’ Mrs Rain said.

‘‘We are truly grateful to be a part of this place.’’

People can cast their vote online at www.knzb.org.nz/programmes/rewards-and-recognition/beautiful-awards/beautiful-awards-2021-kiwis-choice-award-voting/ until Tuesday, February 1.

The Beautiful Awards have run annually since 1972, and aim to inspire, recognise and acknowledge those individuals, schools, community groups, towns and cities working passionately to Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

The Beautiful Awards are New Zealand’s longest-running sustainability awards and provide a benchmark for environmental excellence.

The winner of the Kiwis’ Choice Award will be announced on February 17.
