Taking a shot

Southland Charity Hospital representatives met with members of the Waverley Bowling Club on Tuesday to thank them for raising nearly $15,000 for the hospital at their 48-hour Bowlathon.

Club member Russell Hill said the vision came from fellow member Harry Crosswell who, along with the rest of the club, played in two-hour time slots for two days starting last Friday at 2pm and running until 2pm on Sunday.

“The idea seemed a big call and to put it together, a steering committee of 10 persons were instrumental in organising and running the Bowlathon.”

More than 5500 bowls were played by 72 teams of four, which were made up of clubs from throughout Southland, he said.
