EXCITEMENT filled Invercargill Airport as 10 children embarked on the trip of a lifetime.
Children aged 12-14, who suffered serious illnesses, were part of a Koru Care Southland trip to California in the United States.
Fight for Kidz fighters, who will be competing in September for the charity, were at the airport to wish the children good luck.
Children and their support crew would have 14 days of fun, including a visit to Disneyland and Universal Studios.
Demitrez Mason (12) said he could not sleep the night before.
“I woke up at 3am. I’m so excited.”
Charlotte Gillan and Kiara Faga, both aged 13, could barely believe the day had arrived.
Kiara said she would try all the adventure rides, while Charlotte was keen to meet her favourite characters including Princess Anna and Elsa from Frozen.
“It will be so much fun,” Kiara said.
Koru Care trip organiser Kevin Reynolds said thanks to sponsorship and volunteers the trust was able to take 650 children to Los Angeles and Australia during its 29 years.
“We are lucky with the generosity from Southland. It is fantastic to see their smiles when they get there. It is when the real magic happens.”
