The annual ASB Colour Rush event was held at Teretonga Park on Sunday.
The event was organised by the Makarewa School PTA to raise funds for the reroofing and recladding of the school’s swimming pool.
PTA member Rachael Norman said more than 500 people took part in the 5km fun run and almost a tonne of non-toxic paint powder was used to pelt the runners at five colour stations along the way.
How much money was raised would not be known until next week, she said. Makarewa School principal Kevin Silcock said the PTA had been running the event for three years with the aim of reaching a fundraising goal of $50,000.
The event was a big undertaking for a school the size of Makarewa, which had 155 pupils, he said.
The event also included a Progressive Kidzone with spinning orb-ball rides, face painting, bouncy castles and mini jeeps.
