Annabel Murphy is in her first season picking blueberries at Blueberry Country, near Otautau. As she was on holiday from university, the Invercargill law student decided it was the “perfect job”.
“It is quite peaceful and people are very nice.”
Blueberry Country general manager Simon Bardon was excited about the season, which started last week, despite a late start.
He had been worried about not finding enough workers to pick the fruit as the company had previously used mostly backpackers or travellers.
However, about 100 people went to an open day at the orchard looking for a job last year, and Mr Bardon hired 85 workers for the season.
The orchard would promote Pick Your Own until the end of the school holidays. It would be open every day, 8am to 6pm, and visitors would pay $12.50 per kilogram of blueberries. Photo: Luisa Giraourl cloneAir Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Board of Governors” White/Black-Royal Blue
