Work began on the Queens Park entranceway last weekend, with several old trees removed.
The entrance to the park was blocked for the work which was approved by Invercargill City councillors in June.
The Feldwick Gates and surrounding area would get a facelift, and six macrocarpas would be removed.
A budget of $370,100 was approved for the project.
The redesign included removal of the car parks in front of the gates which would allow for paving, lighting, new gardens and trees, and seating.
The work was expected to take about four months and alternative routes to the park were sign posted. Photo: Abbey Palmer
