THE rain did not wash away the paint or the fun for Southland Boys’ High School’s pupils during their annual Athletics Standards Day last Thursday.
Using various colours and dressing up in their school house colours they competed against each other at the school’s field.
Wearing a Southland Girls’ High School kilt and having painted himself in orange to create a “warrior look” Josh Smith (14) said it was the best day of the year.
“We wait the whole year for this moment and it is great fun to compete with our friends… rivals just today.”
Charlie Forbes agreed with his friend and joked about the main prize of the competition.
“The house that has the best results wins the respect of other students… and also get the girls.”
Thomas Horrell said he would need a few showers to remove all the paint.
“Everything is worth it. The most important thing is to help our houses.”
