THE Matariki Festival was held along Esk St on Saturday.

Invercargill City Council city centre co-ordinator Kari Graber said about 2000 people enjoyed the festival.

“Seeing community coming together and people sharing their skills was fantastic. We also had a tonne of really amazing volunteers who contributed so much.”

She said the event was a huge success and the addition of kapa haka groups added another special element to it.

Carving demonstrations, weaving and poi making workshops also went really well, and they were busy all day.

“It was an amazing day and the feedback was absolutely perfect,” she said.
