WHEN people think about Brazilian parties, they usually imagine the Carnival.
But Invercargill residents had a taste of another traditional celebration from the South American country: a Festa Junina (June Party), last weekend.
The party in June or some time in the middle of the year a celebration of the harvest and Brazilians’ northern culture.
The Southland Multicultural Council hosted traditional food, dance and games at the Southern Institute of Technology’s Hansen Hall last Saturday.
Organiser Bruna Hott and her daughter Mariana Hott (5) dressed in traditional Brazilian clothing for the event.
“It is a great feeling to be able to share our culture with everyone,” she said.
