AUTUMN is the height of the mushroom and toadstool season.
To celebrate, naturalist Lloyd Esler hosted a Fungal Foray at Queens Park in Invercargill last Sunday.
“It is an annual event and a large variety of fungi can be found in the park.
“Autumn is the best time because fungus forms in a warm and moist environment.”
One of the fungi hunters, toddler Oliver Roux (2) was one of the most interested in the “mushroom hunt”.
His mother Lucy Roux said it was the first time they had taken part in looking for fungi, and they both enjoyed it.
“He is very curious and is loving the variety of shapes and colours.”
