ABOUT 100 hardy swimmers aged 7 and over took part in the MoreFM Mid Winter Swim at Oreti Beach last Sunday.
Held in conjunction with Environment Southland, the annual event raised about $400, with all proceeds to be donated to the Oreti Surf Life Saving Club.
MediaWorks operations and promotions manager and MoreFM announcer Steve Broad said MoreFM hosted the event because staff wanted to re-establish community-focused events which had not been held in recent years.
The number of participants this year was about double that of last year, which was the first year MoreFM had held the event, said.
“It was a massive crowd and they were very excited considering it was a very cold Southland day,” he said.
“It was very cool to see groups all dressed up and committing to the fun of it.”
