The five-day cultural festival, Murihiku Polyfest 2017, was held at the ILT Stadium Southland last week.
Rangatahi Toa, the high school performance, was held on Thursday. It showcased kapa haka and pasifika dance with hip hop artist King Kapisi as the event’s special guest MC.
Another new feature of the festival this year was the introduction of A Taste of Polynesia, a cultural food and craft market was held on Saturday, August 26.

Polyfest co-ordinator Tania Carran said about 7000 young performers from 130 early childhood centres and primary and secondary schools throughout Southland took to the stage to celebrate Maori and Pasifika cultures during Polyfest.
More than 30,000 spectators attended the festival during its five-day run.
