(From left) Invercargill East Probus Club president Trevor Oliver, vice-president Hillary Haggerty and membership and public relations officer Alan Mitchell at the Southern Harness Racing meet at Ascot Park Raceway last week.
Mr Oliver said about 20 club members and partners enjoyed an afternoon of racing and fellowship last Thursday.
Members meet on the last Tuesday of the month at the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club at 10am for fellowship, morning tea and to listen to a guest speaker.
Mr Oliver said the speakers were “very diverse, but very interesting, including the general manager of Mt Linton Station, near Ohai, recently, and general surgeon Mr Murray Pfeifer of Southland Hospital”.
Members also took park in outings and social events about four to five times a year, he said.
The club had a membership of about 55, mainly retired men, and was the only one in Southland, he said.
