THE Relay for Life 2018 fundraising event held at Rugby Park last weekend.

Cancer Society events and campaigns co-ordinator for Southland Amy Hibbs said more than 1000 people took part and more than $120,000 had been raised.

Cancer Society Otago-Southland chief executive Dr Rachael Hart said last weekend’s Relay for Life was inspiring for all those who attended.

“We are grateful for the funds raised, which will go back into the Southland community to help support people and their families affected by cancer, fund research, and assist in promoting healthy lifestyles. However, what was more important was that all ages and backgrounds came together for a common purpose – to celebrate, remember and fight back against cancer. It was a true community event held in great spirits and for a cause to which everyone can relate,” she said.

Auction House team captain Paula Winslade said the event was organised very well.

“It was absolutely brilliant. People could feel the community spirit and encouragement throughout the day. For me and my team it was important to take part and we really enjoyed it.”
