
The Southland Festival of Running marathon event, began in Riverton at 8am on Sunday (October 15) and ended at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome.
Southland-based long-distance runners Jerome Lagumbay and Kelvin Meade Lagumbay were first at the finish line.
Lagumbay recorded a time of 2hr 53min 6.922sec, with Meade right behind him on 2:53.7.954.
Glenn Sutton, of Dunedin, was third in 2:54.56.387 leading for most of the run.
Bella Bloomfield, of Dunedin, was fourth and the first female to finish, in 3:02.0.980.
Organised by Southland Harriers, 186 people took part, which included three other distance events – a half-marathon (starting from Waianiwa), a 10km run/walk (starting at Lorneville) and a 5km run/walk (starting from Queens Park Feldwick Gates), all finishing at the velodrome.
