Tidy Kiwi helps the turtles

AN Otautau youngster has learned from a young age she ‘‘could make a change’’.

10-year-old Ciara Hope Henry (pictured) was watching a clip about saving sea turtles, when she decided to do something to help the environment.

‘‘I realised I could make a change and pick up rubbish on the side of the road from Otautau to Fairfax.’’

With help from her grandmother, Ciara has been spending time after school collecting the rubbish in her community.

‘‘There was all types of rubbish. Our main ones were chip packets, cans, bottles and fast food packages. There were also a few used nappies.

‘‘I would suggest everyone put a small rubbish bag in your vehicle, take a short walk and put it in your wheelie bin,’’ she said.

In all she has covered 20km, collecting 28 bags of rubbish.
