Lesley Soper (right) and David Melmoth were named winners of the South Alive Landlord of the Year competition for 2016, after the couple were nominated by their tenant Reshmi Jinu, pictured with her son. Miss Soper and her husband Mr Melmoth bought the rental property originally as their first home and after 10 years in the property decided to rent it. Reshmi and her husband were great tenants, who had their first baby in the house which helped to make the “house a happy home” again, Miss Soper said. “It was a lovely surprise to be nominated and such a nice gesture on their behalf, and an even bigger surprise to win,” she said. Competition organiser Margaret Cook said there were four nominees for the title, which was presented to Miss Soper and Mr Melmoth during an afternoon tea last year.
