‘‘We work carefully identifying where there is an opportunity to launch a new local store… and ensure we can bring about positive employment opportunities for the community,’’ Animates brand and partnerships national manager Jacqui Baigent said.
The new development would include a pet store, grooming salon, DIY dog wash service and Invercargill Vet Care, a full service vet, she said.
The business was expected to employ about 15 people to staff the store and vet clinic, including a vet director, vets, vet nurses, inventory management, sales and groomers, Ms Baigent said.
The New Zealand company has been in operation for over 20 years and has about 40 outlets throughout the country.
Calder Stewart Industries has been contracted to build the new development, located between Countdown and the Caltex petrol station on Tay St. The site is owned by Investor Properties Ltd.
Calder Stewart construction regional manager Lindsay Bowmar said
the approximate 800sqm build, which incorporated space for two tenants and a car park for 37 vehicles, was expected to be completed by early next year. The second space was not tenanted at present.
