TWO Southland indoor bowlers have been named in the New Zealand team to take on Australia this month.
Suzanne Mackie and Gary Low will be part of the 14-member Mat Blacks for the international in Sydney from May 18-20.
“It’s going to be a close match and that is what we are preparing for,” Low, from the Grasmere club, said.
“I’m excited and ready to embrace the experience,” Mackie, from the North Invercargill club, said.
Low, who will compete in the men’s triples and fours, will be making his third appearance for New Zealand. Mackie, who will compete in the women’s pairs and fours, will be making her debut.
The team gathered for a training camp in Wellington at the beginning of April.
New Zealand Indoor Bowling executive member Graham Low said expectations were high.
“This competition is really important for the NZIB – and the Mat Blacks are going to win.”
