THE Highlanders and Southern Steel both gave fans something to cheer about on Saturday, with wins against their visiting rivals.
In front of an estimated crowd of 9000 at Rugby Park the Highlanders beat the Brumbies 23-10, while at ILT Stadium Southland the Steel beat the Perth-based West Coast Fever in a high-scoring 69-62 match. The Highlanders were back in Super Rugby winners’ circle contention, but need to play better to be competitive on Saturday, against competition leaders the Chiefs, coach Jamie Joseph said. The win for the Southern Steel extended its unbeaten run in this year’s ANZ Championship and made it the first Kiwi team to knock over an Australian side this season.
