Game on this weekend

ALTHOUGH it’s been a tough year for Central Pirates in division three of this year’s Southland-wide club rugby competition, the season is looking to end on a high note.
The team racked up its first win this year scoring 22-19 in its clash against Wrights Bush last weekend, and will host a sponsors’ day this Saturday, senior coach Tony Perriam said.
After losing seven starting forward pack players last year, the team had to start again, he said.
‘‘It’s taken most of the season to get a team together but we’ve powered on.
‘‘[And] the boys have all had a good time on the field and enjoyed themselves.’’
Reflecting on the season, Perriam said quite a few players had stood out on the field including captain Keiran McNaught, Cam Fortune, Mark McCallum, Mark Forde and Jordan Tiplady, he said.
The junior grades were also doing well, with A, B and C teams.
There is just one game left this season for the seniors, on Saturday against Woodlands. Kick-off is at 3pm at the Ryal Bush grounds.
As it’s sponsors’ day, Perriam said the club would put on a good afternoon, starting with the senior C’s clash with Bluff at 1.45pm. All sponsors and supporters of the club are welcome.
