James Hargest dominated the champs

The 2017 Southland Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championships was held on Monday, August 7.

Sixteen teams from Southland Boys’ High School, Southland Girls’ High School (SGHS), Riverton’s Aparima College and James Hargest College (JHC) took part.

The JHC 1 team of Andrew Fleming, Damian Mitchell and Finn Holden won the final of the boys’ section with a 7-0 victory over the school’s No 2 team of Hayden Wu, Quinn Hartley and Charlie Samson.

In the girls’ section, the JHC Green team of Maia Cavanagh and Jordan Cruickshank beat the SGHS Red team of Laura Geraghty and Ella Wylie 3-2.

Results
The James Hargest College 1 team of Andrew Fleming, Damian Mitchell and Finn Holden won the final of the Boys Section with a 7-0 victory in the final over their schools No 2 team of Hayden Wu, Quinn Hartley and Charlie Samson.

SBHS Green (Tyler Hewton, Brad Erskine, Jacob Hewton) beat SBHS Black Darcy More, Ethan Yeo, Oliver Lee) for third in the bronze medal play-off.

The Girls section was played in a Round Robin format before JHC Green (Maia Cavanagh & Jordan Cruickshank) overcame SGHS Red (Laura Geraghty & Ella Wylie) 3-2.

In the Girls bronze medal play-off SGHS White (Jacqui Bathurst & Jessica Steininger) beat JHC Blue (Holly Wu & Kate Loan).
