Koi team takes early lead

Heading into round four of the 50-over competition this Saturday, Waikoikoi will host Southland Boys’ High School (SBHS), Old Boys and Metropolitan will play at Queens Park, while Marist and Appleby meet at Miller St in Invercargill.

Last weekend, Waikoikoi beat Old Boys on the main oval at Queens Park. Old Boys had first turn at bat and got to 203 after being in trouble at 68-5. Cody McKenzie (82) and Jason Domigan (66) rescued their innings with a 108-run partnership. The next highest score of 24 came from the wides.

Unfortunately for Old Boys, captain Armapreet Singh was caught for a golden duck. Kurt Thompson was again best of the Koi bowlers, taking four wickets for 31 runs from his 10 overs.

The Koi batsmen reached the target in the 31st over with seven wickets in hand. Captain Jared McKenzie scored an unbeaten 77 off 83 deliveries and Hamish Cooke scored 60 off 50.

On field two, the Queens Park groundsman Jason Osborne helped Metropolitan beat Marist by 190 runs. Osborne scored 129 runs to lead Metro to a score of 280 for seven from 50 overs. Osborne then took three wickets as Metro rolled the defending champions for 90.
