THE Squash Southland annual awards ceremony was held at Squash City in Invercargill this month.
“These awards are a snapshot of the year’s success, but it is actually a reward for a lot of hard work and dedication of a lot of people over a number of years,” Makarewa Squash Club president Andy Yule said.
The club was named Southland Club of the Year and junior co-ordinator Andrea Dudley was named Southland Volunteer of the Year.
Dudley said she was more proud of what the club had achieved.
“It’s a real team effort of everyone’s participation and enjoyment of the game,” she said.
A host of other awards were snapped up by the club and its members, including winning the division one men’s interclub division for the second time, division three and four runners-up, third in the ladies’ division and second in the juniors’ section, as well as numerous individual titles.
The club was also made the top four for Squash New Zealand Club of the Year and Dudley was a top-four finalist in Squash New Zealand Volunteer of the Year at a Squash NZ event in Auckland last Saturday.
