Southlander takes Otago title
SOUTHLAND golfer Matt Tautari has claimed the Otago
Matchplay Championship title after an exciting final at Otago Golf Club. Tautari birdied the 17th and 18th holes to force a 19th, with another birdie enough to give him the win over Otago’s Callum Judkins.

In other Southland results, Joshua Kalweit won the Division 2 Plate, and George Prendergast won the Division 3 Plate. Liam Hewitt was top qualifier.

Golf Southland Women’s Seniors
GOLF Southland Women’s Seniors tournament was played at Queens Park recently, with 69 in the field and at least seven of them aged over 80.

Kerrie Gow (Winton) won the Riversdale Cup (60+ Stableford) and Queens Park’s Robyn Boniface won the 60+ Nett. In the 70+ Stableford Tina Van Engelen won the Mary Webb Cup, and Rhona Millar (Greenacres) won the McClean Salver for the best 70+ Nett. Marion Wallace (Riverton) won the Rae Wilson Trophy for the best 80+ Nett.

Wyndham’s Sandra Young won the Cullen Cup for the best nett score over the field. Full results can be viewed at www.golfsouthland.co.nz.

Laing Shield
YET again Nightcaps has kept hold of the Laing Shield, after a 5-1 defeat of Hedgehope. Individual results were: Brett Dobbie beat Tegan Proudfoot 3/2, Stu Dobbie beat Nick Hamilton 3/2, Ross Mangels lost to Brendan Price 2/1, Alan Roberts beat Mark Anderson 2/1, Peter Booth beat Robbie Locket 4/3 and Jay Petherick beat Gabriel Green 4/2.

Primary School Tournaments
GOLF Southland’s Primary School tournaments are in full swing, with hundreds of young players set to tee off in the next few weeks.

The tournaments started this week with 24 teams competing in the Eastern Zone at Mataura, and will continue with the Town Zone at Greenacres and the Western Zone at Riverton next week, and the Northern Zone at Mossburn on November 16, finishing with finals at the Drummond Golf Course in late November.

A REMINDER free lessons are available for adults new to the game or who are looking to give it a go. Under the instruction of local professionals, this is your chance to learn the basics.

Lessons are at Donovan Park in Invercargill today, Monday, Thursday, November 5, and Monday, November 9, between 5.30pm and 7pm.
