Southland team named
SOUTHLAND has named a strong, five-man team to contest the national interprovincial, being played at Whitford Park Golf Club in Auckland later this month.
The team will be spearheaded by Matt Tautari, who brought up his 100th game for
Southland at last year’s nationals and recently won the Otago Matchplay title.
He’ll be joined by Tyler McLean, Liam Hewitt, Rob Mainland and Liam Balneaves. Doug Carmichael will be reserve and manager. Southland will be buoyed by its excellent
team performance which saw it win the South Island Interprovincial recently. The national tournament will be played from November 24 to 28.
THE Southland men’s masters golf team has been competing at the national Freyberg
Masters at Hamilton Golf Club this week. The team includes Simon Hollyer, Peter Buckley, Doug Carmichael, Glen Sutherland and Simon Boland with Ngarimu Paraki as reserve/manager.
The team opened the tournament on Monday with a half with Taranaki, and a loss to
Manawatu-Whanganui. On Tuesday, the team had a great 3-2 win over Auckland, and then a half with Northland.
The tournament continues throughout the week and results could be viewed at golf.co.nz or check out the Golf Southland Facebook page for daily updates.

Third place went to Longford 2 (Johnny Galog, Riley Wilson, Rithvy Grounder and Madison Harper).
The zone tournaments continue throughout this month, before the overall final is played at Drummond.

The unique tournament is a Mulligan Stableford, where players must replay one shot
per hole. The entry fee is by Arkwright Prize (minimum value of $10 – recycle a golf prize
you don’t want), and a $15 donation to the Southland Charity Hospital.
Tee off is at 11.30am and all inquiries can be made directly to the club.
