THE Southland Women’s Masters team finished eighth- equal at the New Zealand Women’s Masters at the Northland Golf Club with weather reducing the tournament from 72 holes to a 36-hole challenge, for just the second time in its 28-year history.

THE third round of the Mataura Licensing Trust Vice Presidents Pennants got under way at the Mataura Golf Club on Saturday.
Results were: Winton 3, Greenacres 3. Ewan Clark beat Allan Smith 5/4, Barry McAlister lost to Brett Dobbie 4/3 , Dale Turnock lost to Chris Sherlock 3/1, Brodie Keen beat Basil McEwing, Geoff Carleton beat Bill Irvine, Peter Haywood lost to Rob Dreaver 5/3.

Queens Park X 3.5, Invercargill 2.5: Liam Hewitt beat Daniel O’Connor, Dale Owen lost to Tony Chadderton, Phil Van der lem squared with Andrew Ward, Jeff Mowat lost to Ian Taylor, Murray Hamilton beat Gerald Rayner, Richard Wheeler beat Greg Lindsay.

MLT Handicap Pennants
THE third round of the MLT Handicap Pennants was played on Sunday.
Division one teams played at Tuatapere. The home team won on the day, giving it an overall lead in division one over Tokanui and Hedgehope 1. The top individuals were Bruce Howden 65 (Tuatapere), and Cor Aarts 67 (Tokanui).
In division two, played at Nightcaps, Mataura (A) took round honours with Gore having an overall lead over Nightcaps and Riverton. Top individuals of the round were Graeme Tait (Riverton) and Richard O’Hara (Mataura A), both with 68s.
Wyndham hosted teams from division three with Riversdale (2) taking top honours. Lumsden leads division three overall over Hedgehope (2) and Drummond. The top individuals of the round were Kerry Craig 65 (Hedgehope) and Wayne Ruru 66 (Riversdale).
TUATAPERE’S Fiona Gray, Lynette Chambers, Christene O’Brien and Jane Norman won the Golf Southland Women’s Pennants at Gore for the third year in a row with a score of 112. Gore was runner-up on 103 and Winton was third on 100.
Lynette Chambers (Tuatapere) won the Glenn Speirs Trophy for top Individual with a score of 41.
