Players rapt to play ball

INVERCARGILL volleyball players Jamie McIntyre and Kyle Hart were rapt to be part of the South Island Development team which beat its North Island counterpart 3-2 at the Inter Island NZ Development Tournament in Napier last month.

McIntyre and Hart were the only two players from Southland in the South Island team.

It was McIntyre’s third year in the team, while Hart joined the team a year ago.

“The tournament was pretty good. We played five really good games. It was great to beat the North Island,” McIntyre said.

Hart said: “I really enjoyed playing at the tournament. It was definitely a higher level of volleyball compared to the volleyball played in Southland.”

Volleyball Southland co-ordinator Alissa Light said the organisation was hoping to attract more players.

“Volleyball is becoming more and more popular and we are working towards it. The goal for Volleyball Southland is to become a major sport in Southland,” she said.
