Premier cricket teams face 5th round of contest


WAIKOIKOI is the early leader of Southland’s ILT Club Cricket Premier League heading into round five games this Saturday.

All three of the round four games were abandoned in the 50-over competition last week due to weather.

This weekend, Waikoikoi will host Marist, Metropolitan and Appleby will play at Queens Park, while Southland Boys’ High School has home ground advantage against Old Boys.

In the division one competition last weekend, Central Western had a 73-run win over Old Boys in Winton. Central scored 181-9 from its 40 overs, middle-order batsmen Jon Henry (36) and Ben Scott (27) were the main contributors, along with Ashleigh Harrison (22).

In reply, Charanjeet Singh (32) and Mike Mehra (23) were the only Royal Riders to reach double figures. Leg-spin bowler Ashleigh Harrison took four wickets.

Wyndale beat Blue Mountain by five wickets. Jayden Suddaby-Mckeever took five wickets for 11 runs from eight overs as Wyndale bowled Blueys out for 125 in the 39th over. Wyndale reached the target in the 37th over, with opener Nathan Sutton top-scoring with 26 runs.

The Appleby and Te Anau match was abandoned.

In division two, Jayden Henderson led Riversdale to an 11-run win against Marist B. Henderson scored 75 of his team’s 127 runs. In reply, Cam Palmer scored 50 of Marist’s 116 runs.

Albion had a win in Gore over Central Western B. Albion scored 152-9 from its 40 overs, the visitors were then bowled out for 104 in their 31st over. Opener Graham Waddell scored 59 for Albion and Garry Singh chipped in with 23.
