YOUNG Southland basketball player Mac Stodart is fizzing.
The James Hargest College pupil was named in the New Zealand under-16 basketball team recently.
“I’m really excited. This is a great opportunity and now I’ll see where it will take me,” he said.
The 15-year-old, who started playing basketball five years ago, said he was training every day.
“It’s hard but I tried to show that Southlanders can get up there, too, not only the players from Auckland.”
Mac will play his first game for the New Zealand team in Perth in July.
“The Australian junior champs will be my first competition. I’m very excited to go and experience that challenge, to play hard and to show what I can do.”
Mac said he hoped one day to play for the Southland Sharks.
“I enjoy watching Southland Sharks games. It would be great to play for them one day. One step at a time…”
