
THE Southland Rams edged out the West Coast Chargers in a South Island provincial rugby league game on Saturday.
The Rams won 34-32 in a closely contested game at the SDRL ground on Elles Rd in ideal conditions before an audience of staunch Southland supporters.
West Coast opened the scoring with a try just four minutes into the game. The Rams opened their ledger 10 minutes into the game.
At the halftime whistle, the Coasters led 14-12.
Both teams ran in four more tries in the second half in an evenly balanced, clean, fast-flowing game.
The Rams are showing good development under a new coach this season.
The Rams play Aoraki (South/Mid Canterbury) on Saturday at the SDRL ground on Elles Road. Kick off is at 2pm.
They are also yet to play Tasman in the South Island competition.
