The South Island under-15 boys’ and girls’ softball championships was held at Surrey Park from last Thursday to Sunday.
The tournament involved about 160 children.
In both the boys’ and girls’ teams finals, Canterbury A played Canterbury B, with both A teams winning the tournament.
In the boys’ competition, Timaru placed third and Southland was fourth and in the girls’ competition, Southland placed third and Otago was fourth.
Southland Softball chairwoman Rata Hopa said the tournament was great for Southland softball and three Southland players – Toni Elers, Eli Meuli and Khian Johnson – had been selected to try out for national under-15 teams.
