Competitors in the Zone 6 indoor bowls championships in Invercargill last weekend (May 20/21)

SOUTH Otago won the 2017 Zone 6 indoor bowls women’s eights championship at the Southland Indoor Bowls Centre in Invercargill last weekend.

Zone 6 covers from Timaru south and teams from South Canterbury, North Otago, Central Otago, Otago, South Otago and Southland competed in the event.

South Otago won with 117 points, Southland was second with 116.5 points and Otago was third with 110.5 points.

The player of the tournament with the most points was South Otago’s Eileen Grant, who gained 25 points out of 30.

The top players from the Southland team were Honorine Orchard with 21/30, Caroline Ferris 20/30 and Jean Stratford 20/30.

“Players enjoyed the competition in Invercargill,” Southland manager Peter Carnie said. “It was a really tight match.”

“The Southland Indoor Bowls Centre was great venue for this event. Now we are looking forward to next competition in Timaru next year,” Carnie said.
