Katelin Stuart was the only Southlander in the New Zealand Miniature Horse Youth team of five which won the Miniature Horse Association of Australia’s 2017 national competition between New Zealand and Australia in Sydney. The teams competed in three classes – showmanship, jumping and an obstacle course – with a miniature horse they were allocated on the day. Katelin said it had been a close competition between the two teams throughout the event, with New Zealand taking out the title by four points. Katelin also entered several other classes, winning the progeny and best broken colour classes, and placing in the top five in the best head class. “I learned heaps [about preparing and showing horses] and it was really fun,” she said. “It was definitely a worthwhile trip. I already want to go back [and compete again].”
