BASKETBALL Southland will host a 3×3 Quest Tour on Saturday, February 17, at ILT Stadium Southland.

Southland Basketball Association general manager Jill Bolger said 3×3, also known as street ball or street basketball, was a much faster version of the normal game.

“The tour is played on a half court, but the rules are basically the same as normal basketball,” Bolger said.

The tournament was open for men and women in under-19, under-17, under-15 and open groups.

“There are lots of kids who are coming here on a regular basis to shoot, but this gives them the opportunity to be a bit more competitive. You only need to have two friends to make a team and it’s good fun.”

Bolger said spectators could expect to have a good time.

“There will be music, the games are well contested, it is a colourful event. Everyone will be well entertained.”

This summer’s tour organised by Basketball New Zealand will visit 10 locations throughout the country until March.

The winners of the open men’s grade at any of the regional events would be eligible to play in the 2018 World Tour Qualifier Final in Auckland on March 10.

3×3 Quest Tour, Saturday, February 17, 9am-4pm, ILT Stadium Southland. Teams can pre-register online on www.basketball.org.nz/3×3. Registrations will also be available on the day from 8.30am-9am. There is no entry fee.
