Top sawyers awarded for event efforts

Jack Richards displays his trophy for Junior Sportsperson of the Year at the Southland and Otago Axemen's annual prizegiving held at Tuatapere last Saturday.

IT was a night of celebration at the Waiau Tavern and Country Club in Tuatapere as southern axemen and women gathered for the Southland and Otago Axemen Awards last Saturday.

Spokesman Stephen Unahi said about 32 men and women were eligible for awards with top spots given to those who had scored the most points at events during the season.

This weekend would see the first event of the new season, with competitors travelling to Alexandra to take part in the woodchopping events at the Alexandra Blossom Festival.

Mr Unahi said with Australian travel now out, more North Island axemen and women would come to the southern region for the Southern Axemen’s Christmas Circuit, which involved seven competitions held in eight days.Sportswear free shippingadidas zulu trainers for black kids shoes girls
