SPEEDWAY New Zealand’s night of nights will be held in Christchurch on July 10 and both X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway and Sievwrights Oreti Park Speedway have produced finalists across several categories.

Riverside Speedway has had a year from hell, with 12 rain-affected meetings.

However, the club has made it to the final three for a new award to be presented this season, the Don O’Conner Award Of Perseverance, an award which would be fitting in what has been a very testing season for members and spectators alike.

The club’s big meeting of the year, the SW Finance NZ Saloon Championship has been acknowledged by its event programme, making the final three in the Promotional Item of the Year section.

Club president Daryl Shuttleworth has made the finals in three sections, Commentary of the Year, which he won in 2019, Written Article of the Year and Contribution To Speedway.

He will be joined in two of those sections by fellow club members Scott and Graham Williamson, who are also finalists in the Written Article of the Year along with the Williamson family in the Contribution To Speedway section.

Oreti Park Speedway has a host of riders who have made the shortlist of finalists.

New Zealand Sidecar champions James Douglas and Harley Biddle are up for Sidecar Competitor of the Year, along with Paul Humphries and Chris Chatfield.

Bradley Wilson-Dean is a finalist in the Solo Rider of the Year, while youngsters Rylan Casey and Ryan Colvin are finalists in the Junior Solo Rider section.

Oreti Park also has Andrew Spencer in the final three for Speedway Track Official of the Year, while The Pits TV, which is Southland owned and operated, will be hunting some silverware in the Best Media Support section.

Finally, George Phillips who is a Southland driver contracted to Cromwell, could add to a stellar season if he can claim the Saloon Driver of the Year Award.
