Those would be the ingredients for Saturday’s Cup Day at Invercargill, when the Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Cup took place at Ascot Park Raceway.
A tailor-made Fiordland travel package to the value of $500 would be the latest prize on offer for race day patrons, with the Beach Road Holiday Park, of Invercargill, supporting this prize.
On-course patrons could drop losing tickets into a barrel with a draw to be made late in the day to find the winner.
Patrons must be on-course when the draw was made to claim the prize.
The Bet’s In The Bag would give patrons five chances to win a betting voucher up to the value of $200 to use on the day.
To enter the draws, race-goers would have to fill in a coupon and place it in the entry barrel and conditions would be available by the entry barrel.
Children would also be big winners on the day.
Bring the advertisement from either this week’s or last week’s Southland Expressand the first 100 children who visited the cafeteria, accompanied by an adult, would receive a free hot dog and chips.
In addition, there would be plenty of free entertainment for the children with bouncy castles, bumper balls, sumo suits, a kids’ tote, sack races, a heads and tails game, a free lolly giveaway after Race 6, guess the number of lollies in the jar and horseshoe throwing.
The club would also provide free tea and coffee in the cafeteria throughout the day for patrons.
Other feature races on the card included the Arden Lodge Robin Dundee Crown and the Brendan Franks Farrier Handicap Trot.
Admission on the day would be free.
